Nuclear obscuration in the high - ionization Seyfert 2 galaxy Tol 0109 – 383
We report the BeppoSAX detection of a hard X-ray excess in the X-ray spectrum of the classical high-ionization Seyfert 2 galaxy Tol 0109–383. The X-ray emission of this source observed below 7 keV is dominated by reflection from both cold and ionized gas, as seen in the ASCA data. The excess hard X-ray emission is presumably due to the central source absorbed by an optically thick obscuring tor...
متن کاملNuclear obscuration and scattering in Seyfert 2 galaxies
We study the relation between gaseous absorbing column density (NH), infrared colors and detectability of the broad lines in a large sample of Seyfert 2 galaxies(Sy2s). We confirm that Sy2s without polarized broad lines tend to have cooler 60μm/25μm colors; this correlation was previously ascribed to the effect of obscuration towards the nuclear region. We find some evidence that Sy2s without p...
متن کاملCompton-thick X-ray absorption in the Seyfert galaxies Tololo 0109–383 and ESO 138–G1
We present analyses of the ASCA X-ray spectra of two Seyfert galaxies, Tololo 0109– 383 and ESO 138–G1. In both cases, spectral fitting reveals two statistically acceptable continuum models: Compton reflection and partial covering. Both spectra have strong iron Kα lines, with equivalent widths greater than 1.5 keV. These large equivalent widths are suggestive of heavier obscuration than that di...
متن کاملExtended High - Ionization Nuclear Emission - Line Region in the Seyfert Galaxy Ngc 4051
We present an optical spectroscopic analysis of the well-known Seyfert galaxy NGC 4051. The highionization nuclear emission-line region (HINER) traced by [Fe X] λ6374 is found to be spatially extended to a radius of 3 (≈ 150 pc) west and southwest from the nucleus; NGC 4051 is the third example which has an extended HINER. The nuclear spectrum shows that the flux of [Fe X] λ6374 is stronger tha...
متن کاملInvestigating on the nuclear obscuration in two types of Seyfert 2 galaxies
We build a large sample of Seyfert 2 galaxies (Sy2s) with both optical spec-tropolarimetric and X-ray data available, in which 41 Sy2s with the detection of polarized broad emission line (PBL) and 32 without. We found that for luminous Sy2s (with L 2−10keV > 10 42 erg s −1), most (92%) of the Compton-thin sources show PBL, while only 53% Compton-thick sources do. Our results, for the first time...
